What is Measure E?

Measure E provides locally controlled funding for essential services and infrastructure investments that protect our safety and quality of life. Currently, out of every dollar paid in general sales tax in Truckee, only about 24¢ comes back to Truckee, with the remainder going to Nevada County and the State. Voting Yes on E increases the local general sales tax rate paid by residents, tourists, and second homeowners by ½¢, with 100% of the funding staying in Truckee. No funds can be diverted or taken away by the County or State.

Why do we need Measure E?

Measure E will address several urgent and critical needs in Truckee. With wildfires growing faster, deadlier, and more common, voting YES on E helps enhance wildfire prevention, evacuation planning, emergency operations, and disaster preparedness. Measure E will help keep Town owned facilities, public spaces, and parks safe, clean and well maintained. Transit services like TART Connect need reliable funding to continue and voting Yes on E supports community mobility for all and helps seniors and people with disabilities remain independent. Measure E will help protect local watersheds from rain and snow melt that flows off our streets and carries pollutants into our local creeks, rivers, and lakes. Yes on E also helps improve access to workforce housing that is affordable for professionals like teachers, nurses, firefighters, paramedics, tradespeople and others.

Does Measure E increase the cost of essential purchases like groceries and prescription medicine?

No! Essential purchases like groceries and prescription medicine are exempt from general sales tax to ensure the cost is not a burden to those on fixed or limited incomes.
